PE at Salisbury Primary
All children take part in the Physical Education programmes of study from the National Curriculum. This covers activities from team games, striking and fielding, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor adventure activities. Children will learn, develop and master the skills needed to perform all of these activities.
They also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting activities including netball, rounders, tennis, cricket, football, basketball, hockey and swimming. All sports are offered to both boys and girls.
A PE kit should consist of:
- White t-shirt
- Black shorts or black trousers/leggings
- Trainers (outside lessons) or black pumps (indoor lessons)
- Jumper if weather is cool
All PE lessons will take place either on the school field, the school AstroTurf or inside the school hall.

Swimming
Currently we provide Year 5 and Year 6 with weekly swimming sessions at Darlaston Leisure Centre. Children will learn to swim with different strokes such as front crawl, backstroke and breast stroke whilst also learning the vital water safety skills. This is an important life skill that children are required to learn and therefore it is very important to remember their swimming kit each week. Children need to bring their kits to school in a separate bag, a kit consists of:
- Swimming costume/shorts
- Swimming hat
- Towel
Year 5 Swimming – Thursday
Year 6 Swimming – Friday
School Games Competitions
The school also participates year round in the School Games Award, where children attend different sporting competitions against other schools in the area. For the 2017-18 year Salisbury Primary School were awarded with the Bronze Award. During the year 2018-19 and 2019-20, we managed to achieve the Silver Award. This was a fantastic achievement for our school and something that we are very proud of. This was achieved by more children attending competitions and improving the profile of PE and Sport across the whole school. We are keen to continue this and achieve even more!
Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, we were unable to attend any face to face competitions throughout the year of 2020-21. However, this did not stop us from competing! We were able to attend the first ever virtual competitions throughout the year. These included Dodgeball, Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Rounders, Multi-Skills and Skipping. Once again our children competed superbly and made us all proud again!
2021-22 – We are hoping with restrictions lifting, that we will be able to attend face to face competitions again and provide more of our children with the opportunity to experience competitive sport. Please keep your eyes peeled for more information on this!
Clubs
After school sports clubs were offered throughout this year and we will be looking to deliver even more in the 2021-22 academic year.
Clubs on offer this year:

Year 3/4 Super Sports – Tuesday
Year 1/2 Sports – Thursday
Forest School
During this year, we have started to provide the children with the opportunity to experience Forest School. This is a very exciting activity and will teach the children all about the outdoors and how to use different tools and equipment. It also teaches them how to keep safe outside in the field and the rules of outside. These lessons take place on our school field and in our school forest.
