Bart Gee

20th November 2019

We have been visited in school by Bart Gee, an extremely inspiring man who has overcome many obstacles in his life despite his disability. This includes completing triathlons, learning musical instruments and driving a modified car. He delivered an extremely important message to the children: if things are hard, difficult or challenging, it simply means that they are all ‘possible.’ His visit coincided with Anti-Bullying Week and raised awareness of diversity and how people live in different circumstances and face challenges that we may not be aware of.

Blood Heart

13th November 2019

As part of their ‘Blood Heart’ topic, Year 5 & 6 modelled a heart from clay: we used photographs taken during the heart dissection to help us sculpt it. The children’s original sketches were amazing – we have some very talented artists!
FACT: Real medical students do this activity to understand the structure and functioning of the heart!

TT Rock Stars

11th November 2019

On Friday 8th November, Years 1 to 6 trialled a fun new way to learn our times tables and at the same time we’ve been getting to know the music of Bon Jovi, Status Quo and Starship to name a few! As a bonus, we’re improving our times tables and improving our rock star status using Times Table Rock Stars. Children and teachers have been going head to head to see who can win – we can’t wait to keep rocking next week!
Children and staff also got dressed up with their best rock star impressions for the day – we love the creativity behind some of these costumes! Take a look at the photos to see how creative we have been…
ROCK ON!

Blood Heart

5th November 2019

This term in Year 5 & 6, the children will be learning about the topic Blood Heart. Throughout this topic they will be learning all about the heart.
This was our WOW afternoon to introduce the topic to the children. The National Curriculum states that children need to be able to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
The children worked in groups to dissect a sheep’s heart: they wore gloves and used plastic knives and scissors to dissect it and find the different parts. Once dissected, they were able to identify the main parts of the heart. Yuck!
Following this, we also had a discussion about the charity The British Heart Foundation.

Sports Enrichment Day

23rd October 2019

Last Friday, all children in Years 1 to 6 took part in our Sports Enrichment Day. We had a special visitor (Mr Pearce) join us in school to teach all of us how to do archery. We all had lots of fun learning how to use the bow and arrow sets and by the end of the session, we were all brilliant – just like Robin Hood!
During the day, Mr Pearce led a competition between the children and teachers to see who could total the highest scores throughout the day. Luckily for us, the teachers won – better luck next time children!

Parent Workshop

22nd October 2019

Today in Year 3 and 4, the children and parents were making decoy vessels, just like the Trojan horse. This was part of our topic on the Greeks.
We have parent workshops so the children can show parents what we have been learning during that topic. Our next parent workshop is on 11th February when we will be learning all about Predators. We hope to see you there!
