This term in Year 5 & 6, the children will be learning about the topic Blood Heart. Throughout this topic they will be learning all about the heart.
This was our WOW afternoon to introduce the topic to the children. The National Curriculum states that children need to be able to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
The children worked in groups to dissect a sheep’s heart: they wore gloves and used plastic knives and scissors to dissect it and find the different parts. Once dissected, they were able to identify the main parts of the heart. Yuck!
Following this, we also had a discussion about the charity The British Heart Foundation.
